College Showcase Wrap-UP
Upwards of 20 Division 2 and Division 3 coaches
along with the New England Recruiting Service’s Adam Finklestein spent the
better part of Sunday on three courts at the Mass Premier Facilities in
Mansfield, Mass. to take a peek at a wide variety of the close to 90 players
from the New England area. Many of
the usual suspects performed to their level of ability or higher like Ike Azotam,
Mike Rivera, Ray Bowen, Reuben Cabrara, Dennis Clifford, Jeremy Cumberlander,
Aziz Dieng, Chris Flores, John Hickson, Danny Majchrzak, Parris Massey, Louis
Montes, Ryan Pina, & Troy Robinson.
Others that caught our eye:
Ryan
Santos a senior from New Bedford
hit the mid range jumper with consistency, defended on the ball with tenacity,
and took the ball to the basket to score.
Jeff
Schmeltz the 6’7 big man from Burriville HS (RI) continues to improve.
He worked hard off the boards and did a lot of little things to keep
himself involved in plays. Finished
a couple of shots off around the basket and seems much more confident.
Jules
Tavares a sophomore was very impressive with his ability to rebound both on
defensive and offensive ends. He was also affective in transition getting to the
basket and setting up his teammates for easy baskets.
Justin
DuVarney a senior at Marianapolis Prep who spent two years at Georgetown
Prep. had an awesome day.. He shared the ball, shot it, defended it and made
plays.. One of the top performers of the day.
Eric
Watson a 6’3 junior from Merrimack NH, strong rebounder, tough defender, hard
nosed kid. Also knocked down the open three.
Marco
Flores junior at O’Bryant Math and Science, sees the floor well, penetrates
with ease on both sides of the floor, and displayed good change of speed and has
the ability to finish in traffic.
Austin Fiero
sophomore from Rehoboth crashed the boards hard on the offensive end, and
finished well around the basket.
Josh
Vital a post graduate at Marianapolis scored the ball well in traffic and
controlled the glass on both ends of the floor.
Ryan
Terp a senior from Walpole MA rebounded the ball well and looked to
distribute the ball every chance he got it.
Chris
Vincent a senior from Norwich
CT
played extremely hard, and consistently knocked down the open jumper from all
areas.
Kris
Joyce a sophomore from Stoughton MA, good defender on the ball, dug out a lot
of loose balls and took the ball to the basket with good leaping ability.
Mike Neal a
freshmen at Marianapolis, played extremely hard on both ends of the floor and
rebounded everything that got close to his hands.
Josh Mills a
junior at Masters in Simsbury,
an athletic wing who plays bigger than his size, strong to the basket, scrappy
on the defensive end.
Alvin Durret
the former all stater from Windham HS (CT) who is doing a post grad year at the Putnam
Science
Academy showed off his
super quickness by continuously rushing the ball up the floor.. He played under
control and got his teammates involved effortlessly.
Noel
Jones a post graduate from Halifax Nova Scotia, inside outside player, can step
out and hit the three. He can also guard a smaller player and close out the
passing lanes extremely well.
Nick Calvino a
6 foot senior from Providence Country Day, played very hard defensively, made
multiple open three’s and ran the team was poise and control.
Mick
Kelly, a 5 8 sophomore from Andover,
deadly shooter who can also finish around the basket. Plays tougher and bigger
than his stature.
Brandon
Rollins a senior at Brimmer and May did it all. He scores inside and
consistently made three’s from all areas on the perimeter. He also battled
inside on both ends of the floor.
Richard
Parker senior from Lebanon CT
played extremely hard in all sessions, he scored from many areas on the court,
and dug out many loose balls in traffic.
